Good morrow friends. It’s nigh midnight on Sunday, hunkered down for a freeze just a few kilometers north of the Gulf of Mexico, and a bit toasted on a bottle of fine French wine.
Anyhow a few quick thought before I set my faucets to drip and go to bed.
First off, after a chat with Clinton, I can tell everyone that we expect to see the full catalog of Linus to finally be available on streaming services this summer. So, look for those early releases on September Gurls, Camera Obscura, and that first self released album to finally be easily available later this year.
Second, let me just say take a moment to just say that if you voted for or support any of this Trump/Maga/America First/etc bullshit, well, you can just fuck right off. Go on. Fuck off.
Rock and roll, has always been about the freaks, weirdos, and oddballs that never fit in anywhere else. It’s about the little guy. Not about power or money but of connection and community.
So yeah, we are just some dorks from Houston, Texas. We never did this to become rich and famous. We jut did it because it was fun, it gave us a sense of community and place, and it was a place where we could just birth something into this world that wasn’t there before. Nobody gave a shit but that’s cool because standing on that bottom rung wasn’t a bad place to be; it kept us foolishly aloof and let us just make shit for its own sake.
Bongs of Power, Bug People, Stone Bringer, The Ancient Bonglords. Fuck me if anyone thought any of those were ever about rooting for the bully or the power hungry. Hell no, man. That ain’t punk, that ain’t metal, that ain’t the blues, that ain’t where people with any soul come from. It’s always the downtrodden, the losers, and the ones who have to fight to overcome that drive good narratives. Our goofy flights of fancy weren’t any different. And though LP4 wasn’t a political band per-se, sometimes the bullshit, the cruelty, the ugliness, get so bad that well, even The Bonglords have to take a stand.
So yeah, if you voted for or delight in the policies of one Donald J. Trump, fuck you! Fuck You! Fuck the racist brown shirt little dipshits like Stephen Miller. Fuck fascist asshats like Russ Vought. Fuck insecure male tryhards like Pete Hegseth. Fuck Kristi Noem and all her mean girl bullshit. Fuck “I’m not a doctor but I play one on TV” trolls like RFK Jr.. Fuck the “burn it all down” imps like Linda McMahon and Elon Musk. Fuck the Republican party who bows down to this awful human being. Fuck all of this and fuck you if you are down with this.
So, let’s be clear…
We stand with immigrants
We stand with Human rights and due process
We stand with our LGBTQ+ friends
We stand with feminism
We stand against fascism and imperialism
We stand with diversity, equality, and inclusion.
We stand with peer reviewed science and empirical fact.
We stand with this idea of an unvarnished history and what people can learn from facing it.
We stand with putting the best of humanity towards addressing issues around climate change, pollution, and ecology as more than just a question of how it affects the bottom line of businesses but how it affects ours and other species on this planet.
We stand with the idea of just being decent, kind, and empathetic to your goddamned fellow human being.
I could go on and on but I dunno, man, how about just living by the ideal of “Don’t be a dick?”
Anyhow, yeah, sorry to go on a rant as I hate to just use this as a platform but, fuck me if the LP4 could not just at least take a few wine drunk minutes to lay out where it stands in this moment of history.
If LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek, Conan and a million other incredibly geeky things have taught me it’s that there is always hope and the baddies will reap what they sow. That day can’t come soon enough in this country.
