First Week of December round-up

Well folks, it’s been a pretty crazy week here at Linus Pauling central: Radio, a live show and discussions with our label on the upcoming release. More on that last one later this week but for now let’s catch you up on the first two.

Last Friday, we went onto KPFT’s show RadioActive and played a couple tracks from the upcoming album. You wouldn’t know it from hearing it on the air but Steve did a very quick mastering job on his Macbook in the car while he was sitting outside the studio and I have to admit it sounded really good. I can only imagine how it will sound when we do the proper mastering. Anyhow, Rhonda and Phil are always good folks to drop in on and it was definitely a nice way to spend my lunch break. So thanks guys, that was a lot of fun.

Saturday, was also a blast. We had a lot of people come out, we had the lasers and the films going plus Larry brought his Halloween fog machine which was pretty fun if a bit difficult to operate with your foot while playing guitar. I sliced my had doing a windmill and bled over my guitar. In a goof the other day, we joked about sacrificing McRibs at the show and Steve actually went out and bought some cheap druid costumes so I had to follow through and go to McDonald’s and buy a McRib to sacrifice to Satan before the set and a few extras to hand out to people when we closed with La Tapatia. So, lights, fog, films, McRib, I stabbed that cool dude who used to work at the Proletariat with a fake dagger, Joe spit beer in my face, and we played like a band having fun because we were a band having fun.

Plus, we had two great bands playing with us.  Dead Mineral were great as usual. You know how hard it is to play instrumental stuff and hold people’s attention? The pull it off effortlessly. Closing band, Defending the Kingdom was fucking sweet too. I was busy reeling up the films (see below) for most of it but even so they were so bad-ass and heavy that I could feel my arm fighting to let go of the film I was spooling so it could throw-up the metal sign. Sorry hand, but that had to wait until I was done.

Anyhow, a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you who turned out and we hope to do a lot more live shows in 2012. I’ll have an update about the discussions with the label about the upcoming album soon so check back with us.

Here are some pics from the show.  The one on top is by Carol Sandin and the snapshots below were by Carol Sandin and Carol Von Dohlen Heider.
