More work in the studio – C is for Cthulhu, Hearts of Animals, Kate Bush (well maybe)

charlie organNo rest for the geeky! Even though we just released an EP last month, we’ve been pretty busy in the studio over the last few weeks working on “C is for Cthulhu” and while we’re in no rush we’ve gotten quite a bit done.

Charlie knocked out his organ duet with Lumpy Space Princess (left), Clinton has dropped multiple scratch vocals and leads (yeah, he’s kind of a perfectionist), and Steve and I finished our respective parts on bass and guitar.  So the winter timeline looks doable (though to be honest it may run into the early part of 2014 as winter is wont to do.)

We also have worked out a rough idea of how the video will go though it will be an edited version of the song that may run 60 – 90 seconds shorter than the EP version.  We’re going under the idea that a video as kind of a separate entity and that if we can edit the song to accompany the video better without losing the essence, why the hell not?

Lastly, we also have been honored to have been included in the upcoming Hearts of Animals album.  Not the whole band at once but each of us got a chance to do a guest spot which was a lot of fun.  Not only that but the album is phenomenal if all you’ve heard is Mlee doing things from her home production studio, I think you’ll be blown away with what she does now that she has the expanded canvas of a full on studio.  I can’t wait for it to come out so you guys can hear it.

One last thing, C.J. Boyd of the band Cairo is putting together an compilation of Kate Bush covers and invited us to submit a track.  Now, I am a big Kate Bush fan (Clinton still makes fun of me for having Kate Bush posters back in the dorm room) and so I was like “Helk, yeah! Let me see if we can pull it off,” and immediately dug around to find a song I felt we could have a shot at recording in just a few weeks.  To my surprise everyone was at least game to give it a shot and next week we will see how well we can do with Ms. Bush work.  Fail or Win, it should at least prove interesting, weird, and fun.  Either way we’ll let you know how it goes.
