Benefit for Pam Robinson of Walters In Two Weeks

The second weekend of September, the Houston music community will be rallying around one of its pillars – Pam Robinson.  It’s no exaggeration to say that she is someone who has fought for Houston music.  Back in the days of Walter’s being on Washington Avenue, she was always fighting noise complaints (complaints that all seemed to originate from one neighbor with a grudge against the venue) – a fight that reached its most insane moment when a taser armed HPD cop came in and went on what many would deem a rampage in the venue.  Moving the venue to North Downtown Houston wasn’t exactly a cakewalk either thanks to some pushback from the University of Houston but she eventually survived those struggles because she gives enough of a shit about Houston’s music scene and she also has the tenacity to back that up.  ut to be sure it isn’t all punches and jabs.  Walter’s is one of the best places to play because the place has always been pretty homey and welcoming to bands.  Terry is one of the city’s best sound engineers and the staff is always nice.  Pam herself is just as friendly, welcoming, and nice not to mention she has the spunk and spirit of someone half her age.

Unfortunately, the reason for all the hoopla isn’t just a celebration for Pam but a very serious and scary matter that left all of us in the music community dumbstruck – Pam has stage 4 cancer.  That’s pretty heavy news and naturally social media was swarmed with expressions of shock and support.  The day of the announcement came on the heels of Walter’s announcing that it has set aside the first weekend of September for an event that is a fundraiser but also a show of support for Pam.  Needless to say, the venue will surely be overflowing that weekend.

In fact, if you were wondering why our show at Rudyard’s for their 35th anniversary got bumped back a week, this event is the reason.  Every band got a message from Rudz telling them that they were moving the show a week back as a courtesy to and show of support for Pam.  (Luckily, we were able to make the shift but a few bands sadly were not.)  But the point of this aside is to show just how big a deal Pam is in this city.  How many people would get another venue to move their whole weekend over just for them?  Not many.  But Pam is indeed one of those people.

So, follow the link to the Facebook event below and go show some love for Pam and if you cannot make the event at least give a few bucks to the donation account once they have it set up.  Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/events/323221871156497/
